Welcome to -finn- vs The Wildhearts
Art concepts and story behind that 'WHITE ALBUM'.
Back in 2006 I was approach by Ginger from The Wildhearts via My Space. He really enjoyed some of the artworks I was creating at
the time in a simplistic Black and White style. After bouncing a few e.mail back and forth we started discussing various concepts Ginger wanted for the untitled new album. Ginger wanted the four members of the current line up to feature in my Black and White style. This line up was Scott Sorry - Ritch - CJ - Ginger. I believe the four faces is taken from a photograph by Jason Edwards (guitarist from Wolfsbane / The Wildhearts White Album producer 2007) brother. After receiving the photograph I thought 'shit this is such a good image, it do not even need me to do anything with it'. But I went on to do my art thing, I drew out multiple sketches and drawing on canvas's, experimenting with colour and splats. Settling for the final 2 that were on large Canvas's 200cm x 100cm. I e.mail photos to Ginger and he was very happy with the end result. I was invited to deliver the painting to the band a a Wildhearts gig. Ginger text me and put me on the guest list at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall May 2017. So I drove from Newcastle to Wolverhampton with the huge painting in the back of my dad's car, excited about things to come. I had visions driving down to the Midlands, that I would present the painting to the band half way through the gig, showing off to the hardcore fans a sneak peak of the new album cover, and for a moment I would get the glory of my 15 mins of fame. But sadly it was not ment to be. I had the best time at the gig and was stoked that I had been on the guest list for the gig. I was then invited a second time to meet the band and show them canvas in its glory. This time I was invited to the studio where The Wildhearts were recording the new album. Nervous and excited I drove again to the Midlands to Tamworth where to a secret location the Wildhearts were mixing the new album. Knocking at the door to this obscure location to a street in Tamworth Centre, Jason Edwards from Wolfsbane answers the door and I say 'hi ya .................................. is Ginger in'? Jasse reply's 'ahhh he's out'. I thought Oh no another failed attempt to meet the G man. After explaining who I was and I had the artwork with me for the new album he says 'Yeah Gingers just gone to ASDA shopping'. Here's me thinking the life of the Wildhearts it has to be sooo ROCK n ROLL, Ginger and the band will be at the studio causing hell, snorting jack daniels and smoking crack causing Rock chaos and music insanity. But no he's popped out to the shops. Jasse invited me and my girlfriend (at the time) Kaite in to wait. Jasse pottered about around this mixing desk fiddling with sounds then after 15 mins or so in walk Ginger. This was my first encounter meeting Ginger and he was a blast, so friendly and accommodating. We chatted for a while before going to the car to bring in this huge painting I had created. I had wrapped a sheet around the artwork for a grand reveal !!! After he help to cry this thing into the studio I slowly took off the sheet. Ginger was amazed and said to quote " I never normally like paintings of me, but this is FUCKING AWSOME!". I was instantly happy with this yet still picked out imperfections I could see in the artwork. We sat around discussing artwork contracts and legalities and I had to sing my life away and the RIGHTS for the Wildhearts to use the image. Ginger and Jasse had work to do on the NEW ALBUM and Invited us to stay listen to some new tracks while they worked. Ginger went off to record some backing vocals on what would become 'The Sweetest Song' and handed me his lyrics notes book to read. I have never heard the like of these lyrics and wondered how the hell The Wildhearts ..... well any band could pull this filth off. Sweetest Song - Lyrics www.thewildhearts.com/discography/the-sweetest-song/ Ginger then came back in the room, checked the fridge alcohol situation and said to us 'fancy a to the off licence?'. HELL YEAH !!!!! I'm in ...... beers with Ginger, in the studio !!! Fucking Brilliant !!!! Jasse replied 'errrmm no vodka we are working'. Well that rule was out of the window when Ginger starts chatting the girl up in the off licence about Vodkas from around the world. So it was a walk back to the studio and a lengthy chat about bands and general shite..... I told him we were going to see the SUPERSUCKERS in Birmingham the next night and he just casually invited himself along adding 'Yeah I was gonna try and get Eddie to sing on the record', I think he was joking but that would have been fucking cool on the white ablum. Back in the studio we listened to tracks that were partly recorded, shake an egg and my KATIE time even got to sing backing vocals on Destroy all Monsters. What a day out!! I HAVE MORE ON THIS STORY ......... ran out of time to update at the minute. |
Scott Sorry Charity Artwork |
Coffee Art - Caffeine BOMBS |
I created a series of stencil cuttings and graffiti spray paint artworks that were sold toward Scott Sorry's charity auction night.
I re-created the classic 'White ALBUM' images on huge A1 paper each face individually hand cut out with a craft knife and sprayed onto high quality A1 paper. https://www.nme.com/news/music/former-the-wildhearts-member-scott-sorry-has-been-diagnosed-with-a-brain-tumour-2187669 |
I love experimenting with new mediums like collages and using alternative methods of painting. I had this 'caffeine BOMB' idea to create a part digital part coffee art work. So I merged the lyrics from the song caffeine bomb with the image from the white album. I love this piece of artwork and have it hanging on my wall at home.
I might release this as a print or semi original canvas. Keep an eye out at https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/buyartstudio41_4 buyartstudio41Any commissions or request for artworks please get in-touch.
